Falda Lamp

3D Printed Hanging Lamp (2022)
Music has always been an enormous influence in my life and in my work. With access to a new BigRep One 3D printer, I wanted to explore the visualization of movement in response to music.
To do this I looked to many different cultures and the skirts that the women would wear as they danced. The colorful clothing and music of the Spanish culture caught my eye in particular. To me, these epitomized the physical representation of the flow of music and sound. In response, I took those forms and froze them in time in the form of a 3D-printed hanging lamp I have titled Falda, or "Skirt" in Spanish.

BigRep One
The University of Iowa's 3D Design program is one of very few programs in the United States who have the privilege of possessing a 3D printer the size of the BigRep One.
The BigRep One was gifted to the department through a grant written by its dedicated director, Monica Correia. It was first acquired by the department during my time there, and I had the honor of printing the very first project ever sent through the new BigRep. That project was the Falda Lamp.
