You Are My Sunshine

Popsicle Sticks (2019)
When I was a child, I was lucky enough to have a very loving mother. She would sing me lullabies as I fell asleep, but the common classic "You Are My Sunshine" has certainly left a lasting impression on me.
For this small conceptual project, I chose to create a physical embodiment of this song. In creating the side profile of this piece, I looked to the shape of a soundwave I created by singing "You Are My Sunshine". I used its rises and valleys to inform the shape of this piece. From the front and back I worked to achieve a movement that spoke to the nostalgia I feel when hearing this song. The soft, flowing curves and changes in my mothers voice were always so soothing when trying to fall asleep.
